PPCC’s multimedia graphic design program teaches students commercial art skills for use in areas such as advertising, medical and scientific illustration and print publishing. The program offers certificates in design-to-print, illustration, video production and web design. The certificates range from 15 to 27 units and all include classes on color theory and basic Photoshop. Students can also pursue an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program with a choice of emphasis in graphic design, digital illustration, web design and animation. The AAS program includes 15 units of general education classes, such as art history and computer literacy. Introductory classes including drawing, color theory, typography, and the use of several software programs are also required, as well as a capstone. PPCC has an extensive distance education program.

The visual communication program (VCC) at PCC is intended to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in computer graphics and graphic design. VCC offers a certificate and AAS program with options in 3-D rendering and illustration, graphic design and digital multimedia. Both program levels require an internship. The AAS program includes 15 units of general education classes, such as financial math and public speaking, along with a core of graphic design classes including typography, advertising, Photoshop and illustration. The certificate programs all require basic classes such as design, drawing and small business management.

CSU offers Bachelor of Art (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) programs with concentrations in graphic design. Both degrees require general education courses, such as English and science. The BA program also has a foreign language requirement and a core of introductory art classes including art history and design. The Department of Art hosts weekend workshops by visiting artists about twice a semester. Weekend workshops include a lecture and two days of intensive hands-on practice.
